Own The Deep End Of The Pool

In the deep end of the pool you can't touch the bottom, you must be constantly active, alert & aware. I've always committed that I would be the guy who owns the deep end of the pool. I'm obsessed with hydration, breathing, nutrition and moving my body in the right ways. 

I don't ever want to lose my intensity and my presence in my company, or my personal life. Is your company growing the way you would like? Are your actions moving your forward and having the desired effect? If the answers are no, look at how you are taking care of yourself, how long can you keep treading water in the deep end?

Own the deep end of the pool. I just got back from Boise, where I went up and spoke for a couple days for ClickFunnels as part of the Two Comma Club X program. I'm actually the only person outside of people who work directly for ClickFunnels that coaches for Russell. I'm doing a couple of events this year. One two-day even and one one-day event. This was a two-day event, and it was interesting. The event went long, I gave a lot of information. We had a ton of questions, it was about 100 people. It went from 9:00 am to almost 7:00 pm two days in a row. Russell got up after I was done and he said, "You know, they say speaking on stage for 90 minutes is the same as working a full eight-hour work day." So if you look at how long I was on stage, Russell said, "I was just giving two weeks' worth of energy and effort and focus while he was up here," and he said, "I don't know that I've ever seen anybody maintain that level of focus, that level of intensity, for two days."

I'm so appreciative of Russell, and for him pointing that out, because when I say "own the deep end of the pool," here's what I mean. The deep end of the pool is where you can't put your feet on the ground. It's where you have to be active, it's where you have to be working, it's where you have to be alert, it's where you have to be aware. I have always committed to myself that I will be the guy who owns the deep end of the pool. I will be able to go longer, and a more intense way than anyone around me. And if I ever feel like that's slipping, I get obsessive with making sure that I'm taking care of myself, that I'm bio hacking, that I'm getting ready.

In fact, going into that event in Boise, I've been preparing for it for weeks. I was in the hyperbaric chamber, in the infrared sauna that we have here in our house, I've been taking extra [PMF 00:01:53] sections every single day, on my pulsed electromagnetic frequency machine, where you get cellularly activated through the use of electricity. I've been downstairs using the [Nubi 00:02:05] and making sure that my muscle tissue, my neurology has been completely connected.

Because in those two days, I put out a ton of energy. In fact, I wear an [Urbane 00:02:16] activity tracker, and between the two days, I did somewhere, just a bit over 15 miles of walking while I was speaking in front of the room. So you're speaking, you're ... I walked 15 miles. There's the intensity of questions. We had some intense, I mean, maybe some of the most intense interventions that I've ever had in the class, where people had real stuff going on in their real lives that came up and I had to stay right there with them and go completely off-script to make sure that we got them back in the room and feeling safe and feeling like they could move forward. The only way that I feel comfortable doing what I did in Boise, the only way I feel responsible going into a room like that for two days, is if I know I can own it.

I'm 45 years old, and I am obsessed with hydration and breathing and nutrition and making sure I have the right movement in my life, because I don't ever want to lose that ability to have that level of intensity over a long period of time. I don't ever want to lose the ability to go where other people couldn't go, and I don't ever want to lose the ability to be able to speak like that in front of a room and hold attention and bring people with me and be completely present. Because when you look at what it takes to really be an influential leader, and I shared this this week in Boise, if you think of any leader you respect, anyone in history you respect, what you're probably thinking of is someone who could achieve intense presence and awareness and get into their body in the room, and know what to do next. I pride myself on being able to do that. In fact, I pride myself on being able to take anyone to the deep end of the pool.

Aerobically, in a weight room, in speaking, I want to be the person who's most aware, who's most alert, who can go the longest, who can be the most intense. Now, that doesn't mean that I'm in a weight lifting competition with everyone around me, because that, obviously, I'm not going to be able to have forever. But I am in a competition that I can maintain a higher level of intensity for a longer period of time than those around me can, and I want to maintain that for as long as I possibly can. And so for you, if you're not growing your business like you want to, if you're not getting what you want out of your company, if you're not having the impact, the effect that you want, my question for you is, how long can you tread water in the deep end of the pool? How long has it been since you've religiously taken care of yourself, obsessively looked at your physiology and put routines and habits in place that will keep you healthy and keep you moving forward?

It starts with waking up in the morning and having a routine that keeps you grounded and centered and moving forward. And both days we were in Boise, I still did my morning routine. I got up, and Justin and Eddie who were with me, we went on a couple mile walk each morning, even though I was going to be speaking. I think a lot of people hold back when they're going to be speaking. I don't, I lean in. I got up and I did body weight exercises in my room both days. I made sure that I slept well, I made sure that I ate well, I hydrated when I was on stage. I don't know how much I drank, but it had to be a couple gallons of water each day. Those are the things that will help me and will help you own the deep end of the pool.

So here's my question for you. How important is what you're doing here? How important is your business? How important is your family? How important are the outcomes that you're chasing right now? Because I asked a question in Boise. I said, "Who is the most important person in your business? Anyone, yell it out." And I got a very meek reply where a few people said, "Me." And I made the audience say it again and again while I was there, and I made them yell, "Me." And I want you to yell, "Me." Because here's the fact. The most important person in your business is you. And if you can't own the deep end of the pool, then I want you to know something. Your team is always going to be a reflection of you. Don't think you're going to hire people that are going to go harder and longer than you do. Don't think you're going to hire people who are going to be more intense than you are while you're not taking care of yourself.

See, if you set the example, your team will rise to the occasion, and that's exactly what my team does. Justin and Eddie, who were with me, they went through the same thing I did. Eddie was running around that room all day. Not only did he go on a two mile walk with us in the morning, he brought a camera with him so he could record a vlog. And he carried a couple pounds of camera equipment as we did it. And then he was all over that room. And Justin, every time there was a break, or every time we did an exercise, he was out of his seat answering questions. Why? Because my team follow a lot of the same habits that I do. And they're just as intense as I am. My team is a reflection of me.

So my question for you is, if you can't own the deep end of the pool, how quickly are you going to get there? Because it doesn't matter what business you're in, it doesn't matter what you're doing, it doesn't matter what you're outcomes are. The better you take care of yourself, the more you personally can do, the more you put gas back in the tank, the more you make sure that you are healthy and ready to move forward and ready to focus and rise to a level of intensity that people around you can't, that's where your success is going to come from.

And this doesn't mean that you have to be crazy in the weight room. This doesn't mean that you have to be able to run faster and harder than anybody else. My friend John Morrow has a multi-million dollar company, a team of, I think 12, it might be bigger now. He's a bio hacker, he's gaining right now, and he navigates the entire world with only his face. He has complete paralysis of his entire body. The only thing that works is his mouth and his eyes, and they don't really move as well as a normal person would. That's all the movement he has. He has to have 24 hour a day, 7 day a week care. When we go out to lunch, he has to have somebody feed him. But here's what I can tell you about John Morrow. He will take you to the deep end of the pool. Even though he's in the chair. He runs his business with a level of intensity that very few people who have use of their entire bodies do.

And he told me last time we were having lunch, he said, "Alex, you should tell people they need to take care of themselves. I'm bio hacking now, I've lost 30 pounds, and I'm feeling great." So if you have been making excuses as to why you aren't getting in shape, if you've been making excuses as to why you're not taking care of yourself, if you've been making excuses as to why you aren't treating yourself like a million dollar race horse, I ask why. Because if John can, I think it takes most of your excuses away. I want you to own the deep end of the pool, because when you do, your entire business and your life will get into momentum.
